World of Warcraft Item Upgrades Upgrades to items can be used to increase the stats of a particular item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it can boost an item's Rarity or Mark Level and increase other stats. The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a certain amount. Item Level When an item is upgraded, its basic stats are increased in value. The value is the sum of all the upgraded advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, depending on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to the number of perks that have to be modified to upgrade an item. Item level is a commonly used measurement of power and can be found on all tooltips for items. It can also be used to limit how much PvP gear players can wear, since PvP is limited at lower levels. Players can see their average level of item on their character sheet. Utilizing the level of an item can help players evaluate the potency of gear when choosing to buy or sell. It's a useful indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it is capable of dealing with. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when evaluating the inventory of a vendor. On your PC, you can check the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the full item description, including its level. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat. There are several theories about how the level of an item is determined. One theory says that the item level is calculated using an equation that determines how valuable an item's stats actually are. It considers that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in the sockets boost the value of the item. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to Blizzard's actual level of the item. Casesgg 's not the only factor that affects the level of an item. The game uses them in many ways to encourage players to not restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to motivate players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats on a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modifications which are then increased by the player's skill. Upgrades to an item may boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines the upgrade cost. A grey or white item for instance, can only be upgraded once however, items with rare tiers may be upgraded several times at higher prices. Affixes are a different method to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all shapes and sizes. The affixes can be used to give the item additional damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding an additional name to the item. All affixes are being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. It will cost a set amount in gold and items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, just like the other methods of rerolling. In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may also choose which stats they want to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However each item will include at least one stat within the range, unless they are an exclusive item, or a God Roll from a boss in a raid. This is another thing that can be modified by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or deciding which stats to increase. But as with base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item basis, and the interface for comparing items would not display all the possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time. Item Luck The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the chances of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the strength of those properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives the player a chance to acquire better equipment in earlier waves and is therefore more valuable in the initial game run as opposed to later ones, since most players prefer more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over damage gains. In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance that increases with each item level and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing. Armor, shields and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant a further +40 Luck, or to increase the existing Luck of an item, up to 140. Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items are available in the shops or made with the right ingredients. Item Failure Item upgrades are a costly process and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their items if it is not successful. When you upgrade an item the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased so much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%.. The success of an upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. Each item has an initial success rate of 25% and every item with Luck increases that chance by an additional 5percent. Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects can be masked by them.
